About Me
Biography
​Sami Scholar is a freshman from Cleveland, OH studying Marketing at the University of Maryland. Her interests include photography, illustration, and graphic design. Her prospective research aims to examine how these art forms are used on social media platforms to communicate activist ideas, facilitate grassroots organizing, and promote social justice. Her photography practice explores the convergence of consumerism and the self portrait by utilizing techniques inspired by 1980's aesthetics and shopping mall glamour photography. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in Marketing, she plans to work for a non-profit advocacy group as a Marketing Officer using the arts to change minds for the better.

As a College Park Arts Scholar, Sami intends to explore her research interests through her culminating Capstone project to be completed in her sophomore year. She is excited to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn about art careers from guest artists. She also looks forward to attending field trips to explore the arts within her new community of College Park, MD. As part of her university experience, she plans to become involved with Lakeland STARS, a service project affiliated with College Park Scholars, where she hopes to engage young students in active learning opportunities. Her academic goals include developing a senior thesis that demonstrates mastery in Marketing and Communications and graduating prepared to enter the workforce.
